Homemade baby food: the steam bag method.

Ok... if you want the pot & steam basket method to homemaking your baby food, click here: http://worldofwebs.blogspot.com/2009/12/how-to-make-homemade-baby-food.html

This is the picture how to on the steam bag method. When you don't have a lot of time, or just don't feel like doing the other method, this is the way for you!

1. Always, always, always wash your produce. This will remove dirt and all that other stuff you don't want your baby ingesting. Also be sure to remove any stickers your food may have on them.

For this how to I will be using pears.

2. Place your produce on a cutting board and get some good knives ready to peel, core and cut your food.

3. Peel, core and cut your food into small enough pieces so it won't take forever to steam.

4. Place your pieces of food into your steam bag. Note if the bag is half filled or full and follow the directions for the amount of time to cooking it in the microwave. Place the sealed bag into the microwave and cook for the instructed time.

5. When the microwave is done steaming your bag of food, test it by pulling out a piece and "mushing" it. If it mushes easily, it's ready to go into the processor. If it is still pretty hard, put it in the microwave for a bit longer, pull it out, and try to mush it again.
Once it's ready, pour it into your food processor.

6. Place the top on your processor and pulse until the desired consistency. If you need to add water to make it smoother, do so. The best water to add is the water that was used to steam your food (because it has the flavor of the food and won't dilute the flavor of your pureed food). But if you don't have any left over, regular nursery water, spring water, etc (the water you use to mix formula) will do.
7. Pour your pureed baby food into freezer trays. Smooth out with a spoon or spatula until the cubes are filled.

8. Cover with foil and set level into the freezer.

Be careful using foil to cover. It's safer to use plastic wrap as it seals better and there's no risk of slivers getting into the babies food! :-)
